10 Most Successful Internet Companies
June 12th, 2011Internet companies have different criteria than the rest of the world. These hugely successful companies do well in an online environment and have therefore made the list for the best out there.
1. Facebook: This is by far the most successful online company out there and it started with just a simple idea. Sure you have seen the movie about it and heard the hype but there’s something about being able to communicate with others in an online environment that has changed the face of the Internet forever. This is a great one if you need some insight or just want to stay tuned in, and they have put social media on the map.
2. Groupon: There are now many others like it, but they were the pioneers. To offer individuals the opportunity to get to the things that they want or like to do at a significant discount is a big winner. Add to it the fact that if you can get people talking about it and run it all through a simple but effective website, you have hit a homerun which they most certainly have.
3. Amazon: There are millions of sites out there where you can shop online nowadays but this was one of the first and is still the best out there. You can get just about anything and they have a complete site and company that has a great reputation in a very competitive marketplace—that’s hard to come by.
4. iTunes: Though this is of course part of the Apple kingdom, this site alone and the company behind it has changed the way that we listen to and purchase music. You quite literally did away with going out and buying CD’s and now uses this site to load whatever your musical taste dictates that day and they have made tons of money off of the concept.
5. Yahoo: They were one of the first online companies to offer free email services and they have stayed the test of time when others have not. They have ventured out into many other things including paying back vendors for advertising and so much more. They are what a successful Internet company is all about and are often studied for the way that they have done things.
6. Google: They have revolutionized the way that we search for information. They are such a successful company that they have turned into a verb—people now say that they will go “Google” that. They are a staying power and have taught many other online companies what it takes to be successful in this type of environment.
7. eBay: The ultimate in online auctions all started here and has grown into an empire. This is again a very simple concept that has changed the way in which we buy things online or what our perceptions are about certain objects. No matter what you want to buy or search for information on, this is the place to go and therefore they know what it takes to be successful.
8. Twitter: You practically can’t be online without a Twitter account these days. Another social networking site that has changed the way that we communicate with each other and convey our thoughts and daily events. They have created a model that works and it has caught on for the whole world to see.
9. Pay Pal: What’s so great about this company is that they take something as simple as online transactions and turn it into a business. People don’t generally mind the minimal fee that they have to pay in order to make or receive payments online and this has helped to make them a multimillion dollar company. They have created something that people rely on and this has turned them into a wonderfully successful company online.
10. Word Press: In the world of online companies, this is a simple enough one that people can’t live without. Almost everybody has a blog or follows blogs and this simple but effective sort of template has become a favorite within this community. So to those who want to blog or read blogs, this successful company makes it all possible.
Existing in an online environment is quite different than existing in the rest of the business world. These companies know what it takes and have created a nice niche for themselves and made millions in the process.
